Google seeks fresh talent to lead global Web3 team

Following the establishment of a Web3 team under Google Cloud on May 6, technology giant Alphabet is now looking for a full-time candidate to lead its Global Web3 marketing strategies.

As seen on the to-do listthe Google Cloud division has opened up a role as ‘Head of Product Marketing’, which will be tasked with raising awareness of Google Cloud’s Web3 initiatives in addition to possibly building customer demand for the related offerings.

One year email shared with employees just before the start of the Web3 team, Google Cloud Vice President Amit Zavery reportedly shared his vision of making Google Cloud the first choice for Web3 developers:

“Although the world is still early in its Web3 embrace, it is a market that is already demonstrating huge potential with many customers asking us to increase our support for Web3 and crypto-related technologies.”

Some of the key responsibilities for the role in question in addition to leading marketing initiatives include creating annual plans for Web3 and leading awareness across different segments of the Web3 audience.

The workplace is limited to New York City, San Francisco, Seattle and Sunnyvale. Google is known to have created and discarded many internal initiatives, but this is Google’s first attempt to delve deeper into the Web3.

In a conversation with Cointelegraph during the 2022 World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting, Polkadot founder (DOT) Gavin Wood spoke about the development of Web3. According to Wood, Web3 applications do not need to evolve beyond their current use:

“I don’t think Web3 should evolve, really, from its origins yet too much but maybe in the future it will.”

Furthermore, Wood explained how Web3 has pushed the conversation beyond Bitcoin (BTC), smart contracts and decentralized finance (DeFi) into the underlying technology that drives the world of crypto.
