Solan-based move-to-win app Stepn has reported multiple non-service (DDoS) attacks in the aftermath of the platform continuing with a major anti-deception update.
Stepn took to Twitter on June 5 a report that the platform has suffered a number of DDoS attacks leading to reactive maintenance and related improper performance.

We have been under several DDOS attacks in the past few hours. Securing the servers and recovery can take from 1 to 12 hours. We recommend that you rest during maintenance or that work may not be properly recorded.– STEPN | Public Beta Phase IV (@Stepnofficial) June 5, 2022
According to the statement, Stepn expected to secure and recover the servers in up to 12 hours but did not post an update for 20 hours until the time of writing.
“Our engineers are working hard to fix the problem. We will announce it here once the recovery is complete. Thank you for everyone’s patience,” said Stepn. wrote.
The attacks came shortly after Stepn introduced its anti-deception system referred to as “Stepn’s Model for Anti-Cheating”, or SMAC, on June 3. The system aims to eliminate fake users of the platform as well as prevent fraudulent movement data on the Stepn app in an attempt to get an unfair profit from the platform.
“The SMAC system specifically targets motion simulation by changing actual walking / running data, thanks to our machine learning algorithm,” reads the description of the anti-deception system.
Stepn reported major platform issues shortly after continuing with the update, with SMAC mistakenly identifying some genuine users as robots. Other problems included network problems caused by a “25 million DDOS attack” as well as the temporary inability to track any robots on the platform.
“We are deeply saddened by the inconvenience caused to users. The anti-deception update may seem small, but it is actually a major cornerstone of Stepn’s long-term development,” Stepn said.
Despite the platform’s DDoS issues, Stepn’s native sign, the Green Satoshi Token (GST), has not seen any critical decline over the past few days. Conversely, the GST has increased by 10% over the past 24 hours, trading at $ 1.04 at the time of writing. The market capitalization of the token amounts to $ 624 million, according to data from CoinGecko.

Launched in December 2021, Stepn is a major mobile-to-win mobile non-fungal token (NFT) game that allows users to earn tokens by walking, jogging or running outside with an NFT shoe. The game has a dual token system, including the GST token and the Governance Token (GMT).
The news comes as Stepn prepare limit the availability of its platform for users in mainland China until mid-July.
